Description: The Roberts 38 Offshore, Rabbit Proof Fence was built in the outback of Western Australia, near the Rabbit Proof Fence. The builder, an engineer, dreamt of sailing the open seas. In spite of the difficulties of building a boat so far from the sea, he painstakingly built the hull and deck. A remarkable feat.
Sadly, his dream was not realised, but fortunately someone else had a similar dream. The hull was then moved to the Perth metro area where the fit out was completed by a professional shipwright and the new owner. Rabbit Proof Fence was completed and launched in 2008.
Designed by Bruce Roberts, these boats are a popular choice for many sailors. Rabbit Proof Fence is an aft cockpit version and is sloop rigged. Built in steel, the boat is immensely strong and seaworthy. As the design summary states: "The Roberts Offshore 38 is a solid cruising yacht designed to be handled by a couple and to give a comfortable ride and good all round sailing performance. "
An overall emphasis has been placed on quality equipment and the boat has been well maintained.
The engine is a very low hours BMW diesel, the rigging was replaced in 2018, the sails are in good condition and the interior has had a recent paint job. Features of the boat are eutectic refrigeration, full hull insulation, large electric anchor winch, top quality pressure kerosene stove and heavy duty wheel steering.
